Nokia Lumia 920 Specs, Release Date Nov. 1 for Germany; With Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile Details, Crucial to Compete vs iPhone 5, Galaxy S3

Nokia's Lumia 920 will come to the U.S. very soon.

This is apparent because more details have surfaced about the Nokia's flagship phones, the 920 andLumia 820, in other countries.

According to Unwiredview, both handsets will debut in Europe on Nov. 1.

"Vodafone Germany has confirmed on Facebook that it would start selling both the 920 and 820 on November 1," the website said.

In Australia, StatesmanSentinel reported that forum member Fred 69 reported that Australian carrier Telstra is preparing to launch the Lumia 920 on Nov. 5.

"Fred said that his workplace has collaboration with Telstra and in a recently held conference; Telstra showed off Nokia's upcoming devices including the Lumia 920 and said that they are planning to launch the device on November 5. On the other side, AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has already announced that it will launch the Lumia 920 on November 4," reported that website.

In terms of U.S. carriers, PCTablet reported that AT&T is going to offer both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 while T-Mobile is going to offer their Lumia 810 to customers for pre-orders on Oct. 21. No pricing details have been revealed yet.

The Lumia 810 features a 4.3-inch OLED WVGA Clear Black display, 800x480 pixel resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera with Skype HD, 1GB RAM, 1,650mAh battery and the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

PhonesReview reported that the release date for AT&T seems to point to Nov. 4. Microsoft is holding an event on Oct. 29 in California to announce the final version of Windows Phone 8.

As for Verizon, the carrier will not just get the rumored Lumia 822, but it will also get the Lumia 922 as well, which both are modified versions the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, according to Business Insider.

"The person who runs the Twitter account @NokiaPureView, who we understand from PhoneArena and WPCentral is also accurate with Nokia leaks, says he has used the Lumia 922, which will also launch on Verizon. It's safe to assume the 922 will be Verizon's version of the Lumia 920," Business Insider reported.

For the Lumia 822, according to PopHerald, photos have been leaked online by a Windows-centric blog site, and the unannounced device is reportedly the Verizon variant of the Nokia Lumia 820, a mid-range Windows Phone 8 handset. 

"Windows Phone 8 interface, the 4G LTE logo of Verizon Wireless, and the 'Carl Zeiss' optics branding on the phone's 8-megapixel autofocus back-facing camera," PopHerald reported.

Will Nokia succeed with its new Windows Phone 8 flagship phones? That is a question that everyone is trying to answer.

According to Reuters, the Lumia 920 and 820 are "vital to Nokia's survival in stores in November, just as people start buying presents for Christmas and other holidays."

"Analysts said Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop will need to set out a convincing marketing strategy for the Lumia phones, including more details on sales partnerships with mobile network operators, when the company announces its results on October 18," Reuters said.

Nokia has to compete against huge rivals such as Samsung's Galaxy S3 and Apple's iPhone 5.

The Finnish company fell behind smartphone rivals in the last 18 months with more than 3 billion euros in operating losses, according to the website.

Hopefully Nokia's new partnership with Microsoft will help it recover and take back its title as the world's biggest mobile phone maker.

The Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8. It takes many of the physical design elements from previous generations of Lumia handsets, but improves on internal hardware and display technology. Some of the new tech specs include PureMotion HD+ 4.5 inch display (1280 x 768 resolution), Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC chip, 2,000mAh battery, and Qi wireless charging. Nokia is touting the Lumia 920′s premier feature as its new camera lens, the Carl Zeiss lens. It has rounded edges and colorful covers with a PureView camera.

The Lumia 820 looks to be Nokia's new mid-range WP8 device with a 4.3 inch OLED WVGA ClearBlack display with Sunlight Readability Enhancement, 8GB storage and microSD card slot, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon Qualcomm processor, 1GB RAM, and Dual-LEAD flash auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It features Nokia Maps, Drive, and City Lens.

New Spider-Man: No More Mr. Nice Guy

Great news for comic book fans and devotees of Comic Con, which started yesterday in New York City: after 50 years, the Amazing Spider-Man series is ending in December with Issue #700, but Marvel has announced that a new series, Superior Spider-Man, written by Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman, will debut in January 2013. See the cover art for issue #1 here.

“Things are going to get dark, things are going to get weird, and when things get that dark and weird, you need a superior Spider-Man,” Dan Slott, Amazing Spider-Man writer, said in a Marvel.com Q&A.

How different will the Superior Spider-Man world be? Slott said that Spidey will still face a Sinister Six (a group of six main adversaries).  He said he “expects” Adrian Toomes (Vulture) to be one of the Six. For the most part, however, Slott remained mysterious about Spidey’s new universe in his Q&A with Marvel.com:

“This is still very much the world of Spider-Man. There may be a new Spider-Man here, doing things in a new and different way, but you’re going to see the Spider-cast reacting to this. You’re going to see how this Spider-Man will deal with our Spider-Man’s villains. Whoever makes it out of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 will find a different Spider-Man waiting for them when Superior Spider-Man starts.”

In an interview with USA Today, Slott could not even assure us that Peter Parker will still be the guy underneath the Spidey suit:

“You’ve got to ask yourself, what does ‘Superior Spider-Man’ mean? Does this mean a Spider-Man with a greater power set? Or maybe he’s moving to Michigan. Just set up shop next to Lake Superior,” the writer quips.

Superior Spider-Man will be part of Marvel NOW!, a reboot announced in July 2012 in which writers and illustrators move around the Marvel universe, “launch new titles and relaunch old ones.”  For instance, Avengers writer Brian Michael Bendis is working on a new X-Men book, and Fantastic Four writer Jonathan Hickman will work on a new Avengers book that will come out twice a month, according to Entertainment Weekly.

In more cool Spider-Man news, the Blu-ray and DVD of Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) will be released Nov. 9, and a new “second screen” app will show viewers behind-the-scenes footage and cast interviews as they are watching the film, according to MTV. All of this news comes just in time for Spidey’s birthday on October 14, which will be celebrated at New York Comic Con.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus ban overturned by US appeals court

The US Court of Appeals has overturned a ban on sales of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone, in a blow to Apple in the ongoing battle between the two rivals.

It said the district court in California, which had issued the ban in June, had "abused its discretion in entering an injunction".

Earlier this month, a sales ban on Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the US was also lifted.

The two firms are involved in a legal tussle over patent infringement claims.

Earlier this year, a California court awarded Apple $1.05bn (£652m) in damages, after ruling several of its software and design technologies had been infringed by Samsung.

Samsung has since challenged that verdict and called for a retrial.

The South Korean manufacturer welcomed the latest decision on the Galaxy Nexus phone, saying the decision "confirms that the role of patent law is to protect innovation and not to unreasonably stifle competition and restrict consumer choice".

"We will continue to take all appropriate measures to ensure the availability of our innovative products."

The Founding of Quel'Thalas

The high elves, led by Dath'Remar, left Kalimdor behind them and challenged the storms of the Maelstrom. Their fleets wandered the wreckage of the world for many long years, and they discovered mysteries and lost kingdoms along their sojourn. Dath'Remar, who had taken the name Sunstrider (or "he who walks the day"), sought out places of considerable ley power upon which to build a new homeland for his people.

His fleet finally landed on the beaches of the kingdom men would later call Lordaeron. Forging inland, the high elves founded a settlement within the tranquil Tirisfal Glades. After a few years, many of them began to go mad. It was theorized that something evil slept beneath that particular part of the world, but the rumors were never proven to be true. The high elves packed up their encampment and moved northward towards another land rich with ley energies.

As the high elves crossed the rugged, mountainous lands of Lordaeron, their journey became more perilous. Since they were effectively cut off from the life-giving energies of the Well of Eternity, many of them fell ill from the frigid climate or died from starvation. The most disconcerting change, however, was the fact that they were no longer immortal or immune to the elements. They also shrank somewhat in height, and their skin lost its characteristic violet hue. Despite their hardships, they encountered many wondrous creatures that had never been seen in Kalimdor. They also found tribes of primitive humans who hunted throughout the ancient forestlands. However, the direst threat they encountered were the voracious and cunning forest trolls of Zul'Aman.

These moss-skinned trolls could regenerate lost limbs and heal grievous physical injuries, but they proved to be a barbaric, evil race. The Amani empire stretched across most of northern Lordaeron, and the trolls fought hard to keep unwanted strangers from their borders. The elves developed a deep loathing for the vicious trolls and killed them on sight whenever they were encountered.

After many long years, the high elves finally found a land which was reminiscent of Kalimdor. Deep within the northern forests of the continent, they founded the kingdom ofQuel'Thalas and vowed to create a mighty empire which would dwarf that of their Kaldorei cousins. Unfortunately they soon learned that Quel'Thalas was founded upon an ancient troll city that the trolls still held to be sacred. Almost immediately, the trolls began to attack the elven settlements en masse.

The stubborn elves, unwilling to give up their new land, utilized the magics which they had gleaned from the Well of Eternity and kept the savage trolls at bay. Under Dath'Remar's leadership, they were able to defeat the Amani warbands that outnumbered them ten to one. Some elves, wary of the Kaldorei's ancient warnings, felt that their use of magic might possibly draw the attention of the banished Burning Legion. Therefore, they decided to mask their lands within a protective barrier which would still allow them to work their enchantments. They constructed a series of monolithic Runestones at various points around Quel'Thalas which marked the boundaries of the magic barrier. The Runestones not only masked the elves' magic from extra-dimensional threats, but helped to frighten away the superstitious troll warbands as well.

As time wore on, Quel'Thalas became a shining monument to the high elves' efforts and magical prowess. Its beauteous palaces were crafted in the same architectural style as the ancient halls of Kalimdor, yet they were interwoven with the natural topography of the land. Quel'Thalas had become the shining jewel that the elves had longed to create. TheConvocation of Silvermoon was founded as the ruling power over Quel'Thalas, though the Sunstrider Dynasty maintained a modicum of political power. Comprised of seven of the greatest high elf lords, the Convocation worked to secure the safety of the elven lands and people. Surrounded by their protective barrier, the high elves remained unmoved by the old warnings of the Kaldorei and continued to use magic flagrantly in almost all aspects of their lives.

For nearly four thousand years the high elves lived peacefully within the secluded safety of their kingdom. Nevertheless, the vindictive trolls were not so easily defeated. They plotted and schemed in the depths of the forests and waited for the numbers of their warbands to grow. Finally, a mighty troll army charged out from the shadowy forests and once again laid siege to the shining spires of Quel'Thalas.

David Geffen on New PBS 'American Masters' Film: 'Wow, Did I Do ?'

American Masters creator and executive producer Susan Lacy premiered her latest installment of the Emmy-winning series, Inventing David Geffen, at the Toronto International Film Festival, but the two-hour rags-to-riches tale will air in the U.S. nationwide on PBS Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).

Now 69-years-old, the notoriously interview-shy Geffen told the TIFF audience in a Q&A alongside Lacy that he was "incredibly flattered" by the film and that he had "forgotten most of it." "I thought, 'Wow, did I do that?" He added that he had nothing to do with the content, bad or good. "I didn't ask her to change anything," Geffen said of Lacy and later added, "I just wish my mother was around to see it. She'd be so proud."

David Geffen: 'I'd Kill Myself' Rather Than Get Into Music Business Today

Described as everything from "outspoken" to a man "not known for being warm and fuzzy," Inventing David Geffen begins with comments from a range of Geffen's friends, colleagues and clients, including Neil Young, Tom Hanks, Don Henley, Cher, Jackson Browne and Steve Martin. Long before the fallen titan, Sargeras, unleashed his demonic Legion on Azeroth, he turned his baleful gaze upon the world of Argus and its highly intelligent inhabitants, the eredar. Believing that this magically gifted race would be a crucial component in his dark quest to undo all of creation, Sargeras contacted the eredar’s three leaders – Kil’jaeden, Archimonde, and Velen – and offered them knowledge and power in exchange for their loyalty.

Only Velen abstained, for he had seen a vision. In it, his people were transformed into hideous demons, and they joined the ranks of Sargeras’ Burning Legion: an army of unspeakable evil that would grow vast and decimate life on countless worlds. With the aid of the naaru, benevolent energy beings who had resolved to combat the fallen titan’s nihilistic crusade, Velen gathered other like-minded eredar and narrowly escaped Argus. Forever after, these renegades would call themselves the draenei, or “exiled ones.”

Kil’jaeden, who had loved Velen like a brother, was infuriated by the draenei’s flight from Argus and their ungrateful refusal of Sargeras’ offer. In retaliation, Kil’jaeden led the Legion’s armies on a relentless pursuit of the draenei throughout the cosmos. Eventually, Velen and his beleaguered people eluded their hunters and found sanctuary on a remote world that they would name Draenor, or “Exiles’ Refuge.” Having been instructed by the naaru in the ways of the Light, the draenei developed an extraordinary society on their new home and came to know the shamanistic orc clans native to Draenor.

Yet the draenei’s peaceful existence did not last. Upon discovering the renegades’ home, Kil’jaeden corrupted the noble orcs into a single, bloodthirsty force of destruction: the Horde. Blinded by rage, the orcs wreaked havoc upon the draenei, slaughtering over eighty percent of the race and forcing Velen and other survivors into hiding. Many draenei also mutated into lesser forms known as the Krokul, or “Broken,” after being exposed to the fel energies wielded by orc warlocks. Decades after the Horde’s genocidal campaign, the shaman Ner’zhul opened magical portals throughout Draenor, and the resulting magical stress tore the dying world apart.

In the wake of the calamity, what remained of Draenor – known henceforth as Outland – devolved into a battleground among the Burning Legion and other factions vying for control of the ruined landscape. To escape the mounting chaos, Velen and a number of his followers commandeered the Exodar, a satellite structure of the stunning naaru dimensional fortress named Tempest Keep. Using this craft to search for new allies, the draenei left Outland and later crash-landed upon the world of Azeroth.

Inspired by heroic tales of the Alliance and its victories against the Legion, the draenei sought out and pledged their loyalty to this courageous faction. Not long afterward, Velen and his noble refugees played a key role in urging the Alliance to invade Outland and disrupt the Legion’s nefarious activities. Armed with their unshakable faith in the Light, the draenei ventured to their embattled former home as steadfast members of the Alliance and defeated their ancient demonic rivals.

The return to Outland offered many draenei a chance to reconnect with their brethren who had been left behind. While some of Velen’s race chose to rebuild their society in the shattered land, the majority of draenei remained on Azeroth, vowing to uphold their commitment to the Alliance. Recently, Velen was granted a dire vision concerning a war between the forces of light and darkness that would take place on Azeroth. Thus, the draenei and their sage leader are now bravely preparing to stand against the shadow that they believe is fast approaching.

WOW_RM20mil plot to DESTABILIZE GOVT

KUALA LUMPUR- INVESTIGATORS probing into the financial background of several non-governmental organisations have uncovered attempts by foreign hands to destabilise the government.

Sources revealed that from 2005 to 2011, almost RM20 million, courtesy of the Washington- based National Endowment for Democracy (NED) had allegedly been channelled to: SuaRaM (RM1.6 million);

NatioNal Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) (RM4.6 million);

MkiNi Dotcom Sdn Bhd (RM298,000); and, otheRS (RM13.3 million).

The monies were also allegedly channelled to the Southeast Asia Centre for e-Media (Seacem), Southeast Asian Press Alliance and the Centre for Independent Journalism.

From last year, several other set-ups, namely Bersih, Merdeka Center for Opinion Research, Lawyers for Liberty, Liberal Banter Sdn Bhd as well as the International Republican Institute, began receiving funds from NED, an organisation that had been claimed to have “played a significant role in attempting to destabilise legitimate governments and replace them with client proxies”.

Bersih co-chairman Datuk S. Ambiga was reported recently to have admitted that Bersih had received funds from the NDI as well as New York-based Open Society Institute, the administrator for programmes under the Open Society Institute founded by maverick currency speculator George Soros.

NED, on its website, said "it is a private, non-profit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world".

It also claims to be a unique institution where it could provide "flexibility that makes it possible to work in some of the most difficult circumstances, and to respond quickly when there is an opportunity for political change".

It is believed that organisations with "programmes consistent with its objectives" are awarded grants.

Sources also revealed that Suaram, which is under several investigations, including for allegedly raising funds while operating as an unregistered society as well as for serious violations of at least five sections of the Companies Act, along with Suaram and Suara Inisiatif Sdn Bhd the company that is linked to it, had four known foreign funders.

Aside from NED's estimated RM1.6 million already in its coffers, Suaram is also believed to have received RM774,000 (between 2008 and last year) from New York-based Open Society Institute, the administrator for programmes under the Open Society Institute.

The German embassy, meanwhile in 2010, allegedly gave Suaram RM21,400.

It was reported that the embassy had admitted that it funded Suaram's project that particular year.

Another RM34,000 was also allegedly channelled to Suaram by Seacem.

The links of these establishments are apparent, with Seacem on its website acknowledging that it was supported by OSI.

Seacam, meanwhile, under its fellowship programme, offers its fellows placement in Malaysiakini.

Suaram's accounts and "money trail" are also allegedly being looked into by Bank Negara Malaysia.

Recently, Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob called on Bank Negara to probe Suaram under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

He had also asked the Home Ministry and Registrar of Societies to determine Suaram's status.

Many quarters have questioned the need to have outside influence interfering in the country's political agenda.

They have also called on several key opposition figures including Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Tian Chua, Suaram director Kua Kia Soong and co-founder R. Sivarasa to explain why Suaram was being funded by foreign parties, including by Soros, when he had allegedly masterminded plans to bring the country's economy down.

They had also been asked to clarify whether they had received foreign funding to support their political activities.

Former PKR leader Ng Lum Yong had demanded that the trio publicly explain Suaram's funding as the people wanted to understand its true role as an organisation.

"The people have the right to know about Suaram's true political agenda and its motives," Ng said.

In an interview with BH last night, International Movement for a Just World (JUST) president Professor Dr Chandra Muzaffar said NED had been known to lend substantial financial support to NGOs in particular countries like Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Syria.

He claimed it had been uncovered that such efforts had been going on aggressively over the past five years in the name of democratic freedom with the objective of making people rise up against leaders who were allegedly deemed to be cruel.

He also claimed they handed out assistance with the objective of stirring up the people, and their contribution was akin to udang disebalik batu.

"We know of their activities in several countries as what has happened in the Arab world, leading to the Arab Spring uprising.

"There is also proof they provided assistance to groups opposing leaders in South and Central America at one time with the excuse that the leaders were tyrants and undemocratic.

"Similarly, they were believed to have assisted rebels to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin."

Chandra, who is also the chairman of 1Malaysia Foundation, said the credibility of such an organisation which claims to support institutions of freedom and democracy was questionable as it could threaten global security.

He added that those behind the body included Zionist groups which maintain good relations with the Jewish government.
